London Market

Get to know my 3 favourite markets in London

The last two years I visited London a few times because my boyfriend and brother worked and lived (and stayed in Urban Villa) there for a temporary assignment. What can I say… I really grew fond of the city and I am always down for another visit.

During my visits I got to know quite a few markets, something London is known for. Here are three of those London markets I really love and visit every time I’m around.

1
Borough Market

8 Southwark St, London SE1 1TL

Yum, my favourite food market with a lovely view on The Shard and right next to the Southwark Cathedral. A few reasons why I like Borough so much:

·      The high glass roofs with green pillars: gives the market an authentic feel and brings in a lot of natural light

·      The stands: from raw food to fresh meat or vegetarian dishes, there’s something for everybody. And it is delicious! Try the venison burger: it is sooo good.

·      The location: it’s just a short walk away from London Bridge, The Shard, Tate Modern, Monument, etc.

So if you’re around: grab a prosecco and stroll around the market, or enjoy a coffee in Monmouth and watch all the Borough Market visitors pass you by. It’s definitely worth a visit.

2
Camden Market

Camden Lock Pl, London NW1 8AF

Arose in 1974, Camden Market is one of the most popular markets in London. The moment you get out Camden Town metro station you’ll feel, hear and see the Camden atmosphere.

Stroll through Camden High Street, hop in at Urban Outfitters or score a pair of shoes in one of the many sneaker stores for some shopping. Ignore the tourist souvenir shop traps and save your energy for the real deal: Camden and Stable Market, starting from Camden Lock. This lock is also the ideal place to start a walk along Regent’s Canal.

You can stroll around the markets for hours: art, food, jewellery, clothing,… they have it all. My absolute favourite is Chin Chin Labs, the nitrogen ice cream shop in Camden Town. They have the best ice cream and I always make a stop whenever I’m around.

3
Old Spitalfields Market

Horner Square, Spitalfields, London E1 6EW

Open seven days a week, Old Spitalfields is a great all-round market to shop, eat and hang out. There are shops, stalls and events almost every week.

Somehow, I have my fixed visits everytime I’m in Old Spitalfields:

· Inspitalfields: great gift, homewares and interiors store

· The London Tea Exchange: for the real, fancy British tea experience

· Sud Italia pizza food truck: mmmmm pizzaaaaa

There’s also a stall with a lady that sells organic, gluten-free chocolate pralines. They are the best!! But I can’t remember their name 🙁

Every day is a specific kind of market, with the biggest market on Sunday. Check out the website to get to know all the stalls, shops and market days. Old Spitalfields also has a great location in the cool Shoreditch neighbourhood: close to Brick Lane Market, Backyard Market and BOXPARK.

What are your favourite London markets? Let me know & I’ll try and visit them next time I’m there!
